Mukkombu means ‘three branches’ in Tamil. The Upper Anaicut is also known as Mukkombu is the dam built on the Cauvery River. The dam is located 18 km away from Trichy city. The dam was constructed between 1836 and 1838 by Sir Arthur Cotton.
